On an important occasion we like to get all dolled up. Perfect eyes, flawless makeup, droll worthy dress and peachy lips. Few hours later, perfect eyes , flawless makeup , drool worthy dress and neutral lips. Wait, neutral lips? But what about that peach lip stain you had applied just three hours back. So now you need to rush to the powder room every three hours to reapply that lip color that’s too stubborn to last but not so stubborn on your lips. Would you like some advice on how to make that obstinate lipstick last longer from next time and every time, then read further.
1. Matt lipsticks
Creamy lipsticks are pretty moist and don’t last as long as matte lipsticks. Matte lipsticks can be drying hence make sure to moisturize your lips well with a lip balm prior to applying the lipstick.
2. Ditch the lip gloss
Glossy lips look lush but they’re very low on pigment. They dissolve the color of the lipsticks hence the lipstick tends to get faded pretty soon. If you really want to use gloss then use a tiny dot at the center of the lower lip. Light hits this area and lips appear glossy. Alternatively, you can use silicone lip glosses. Color would stay but they can be pretty drying so use them occasionally. To add sheen you can also use satin-finish, pearlescent lipsticks. Unlike creamy lipsticks, they don’t get their shine from the moist texture but pearl pigments. Hence these lipsticks give both the shine and last longer.
3. Concealer or Foundation
Apply a little bit of concealer or foundation before applying a lip color. This will fill in the fine lines and give your lip color something to adhere to.
4. Bloating
Bloat once, Bloat again. Bloat your lips with a tissue. Bloating will absorb any extra oil and emollients while leaving the pigments intact. Kiss the tissue lightly or rub it over your lips. Don’t bite it or put half of it in your mouth to avoid uneven spreading of lip color. Reapply your lip color.
5. Translucent powder
Dust a little face powder on your lips after applying the lipstick. This will increase its staying power and the color will last even after 2 cocktails.
6 Lip Fixer
I’ve personally used two Lip Fixers and know that they work. Kryolan Lip Fix and Primark Lipcote. Kryolan Lip fix was used by my makeup artist on my wedding day. She applied a little coat on top of my lip color. The color lasted whole evening and my lips stayed as red as my bright red wedding lehenga. I use Primark Lipcote here in Netherlands and it works pretty decent too. I’m finally able to use my lip glosses which had never seen the light of the day before.
So these were some of the steps I normally do when I want that color to last. Let me know if they work for you. Do you have some tips of your own? Share them below. We girls can use some extra advice 😉
